What a weekend! Combine temperatures hovering in the 90s, with thousands of spectators, hundreds of riders, and not much shade, you can get an interesting mix of events. I don't think I have actually seen as many people wading in cool creek waters ever in my life, nor have I ever seen so many people cramped in the few shaded areas the track provided. That's just the spectator side of things, I can't imagine how the heat effects riders participating in a 30 minute moto on one of the most challenging MX tracks in the nation
As many of you are aware, local hero Ryan Dungey dominated the 450 class, with a cool and collected Trey Canard sweeping Lites. The return of Kevin Windham was a welcome site, as was his impressive hole-shot during Moto #1, and a strong lead during half that moto. Minnesota didn't only have Ryan Dungey as a favorite, Alex Martin (who literally grew up at Spring Creek) had a decent event, day, showing both good lap times, as well as a 10th place overall finish.
Along with Martin, many other riders from Minnesota took to the track. Consisting of names like; Jackson, Haas, Kangas, Dally, Dehn and many others. The crowd was alight during morning qualifying, and you could pick out the MN riders from many others by the growing cheers as they went by the trackside spectators. Sadly not all of them qualified, but a few on the roster did make it to the main event in both Lites and 450 classes.
I owe a huge thanks to MXP Magazine for again setting me up as their photographer for this event, and hope you check them out at
MXPMag.com . Ryan and the crew over at MXP are awesome folks, who like us, race amateur level, and live for the sport we all love!
